Wednesday, July 8, 2009
7:00 – 9:00 pm

Have you ever wanted to be known as hardcore? Are you already hardcore, and do you want to try something even more hardcore-er? If your answer was “yes” for the preceding questions then the Mezzotint is for you. What you don’t know what a mezzotint is? Well, you should come find out.

Juan Garcia will be conducting a two hour demonstration about this 17th century Intaglio printmaking process on July 8 from 7p.m. to 9 p.m. Who is Juan Garcia? Exactly, for more information on him and his work you can visit www.whoisjuanrgarcia.com. See you July 8 from 7 to 9. Don’t be late, and don’t forget.

We only have so much space in the studio, so we are asking people to RSVP by e-mailing Angee (angee@spudnikpress.com).

Onsmith Dog Stew & Monkey Nudd Wine

An Exhibition of Collaborative Prints by Paul Nudd and Onsmith, Spring 2009 Artists in Residence at Spudnik Press, Chicago.

Friday, July 10th – Thursday, August 6th, 2009
Opening reception: Friday, July 10th, 6 – 10PM

Spudnik Press is pleased to announce a new exhibition of work by our Spring 2009 Artists in Residence, Paul Nudd and Onsmith. Ice cream, buzzing flies, cow udders, double-tongues, fishing tackle, jarred brains, twisted limbs and floating heads. These are all things Onsmith & Nudd. Three separate suites of prints meld these two artists’ signature styles into a cartoonish netherworld of darkly comic doom. Witness the mushy quadruple-stacked heads that form the menacing totem pole-like Head Heaps. Or the freshly staked heads and weird diseased udder worship of Monkey Nudd Wine. Onsmith & Nudd made close to 1000 prints this year, plenty to sift through, scour and pick apart with a fine toothed comb.

As an extra added bonus, visitors are invited to participate in Onsmith & Nudd’s newest collaborative body of work, Horde of the Flies: An Infestation. Many large sheets of paper will be provided so that Spudnik’s guests may draw between 1 and 1000 flies that will eventually culminate in a massive swarm of pesky winged insects. Examples, materials and sources will be provided.

Paul Nudd was born in Harpenden, England in 1976. He graduated in 2001 with an MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Recent exhibitions include Jack the Pelican Presents, Brooklyn, Western Exhibitions, Chicago and the Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago.

Onsmith is a cartoonist and illustrator living in Chicago. His comics, prints, and illustrations have appeared in The Chicago Reader, The Portland Mercury, The Common Review, Oxford American Magazine, Hotwire Comics (Fantagraphics Books), Vice Magazine, Graphics Classics, both volumes of Anthology of Graphic Fiction, Cartoons & True Stories, and may also be viewed at http://www.onsmithcomics.blogspot.com He most recently began showing his art in galleries as well as curating a show of comics.
