The Foundations of Teaching Artistry (WI2015)

Foundations of Teaching Artistry is designed for artists who aspire to teach. This workshop is also perfect for Teaching Artists who have experience with youth or adults, yet have unresolved questions about how to best structure a class, assess their students learning, or juggle the many roles of a teaching artist.

Special guests, Kate Adams and Cynthia Weiss, will contextualize the field of Teaching Artistry and introduce fundamental tools and approaches that allow artists to not only excel as educators, but inspire their students as well. Through conversations as a group and with peers, attendees will investigate many questions and concepts: What are learning objectives? What is a syllabus? How can a syllabus and objectives make teaching easier and more gratifying? How can learning objectives help students succeed and stay motivated? How can a teacher assess student learning? What does a “successful” class look like?
