SUMMARY:Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Spuds at Spudnik - Potato Prints with Dutes Miller
DESCRIPTION:Guest Artist: Dutes Miller\nWhat kind of multiples can you make from the stuff in your kitchen? Come find out with artist and baker Dutes Miller! He will show you how to transform a humble potato into beautifully carved relief stamps\, designed around a culinary or springtime theme. Don’t have printing inks lying around at home? No problem. Dutes will share how to make use of natural pigments found on your spice rack. These small-scale prints are ideal for repeat patterning on cards\, journal covers\, wrapping paper\, napkins\, or even for printing edible decorations on your plates and saucers for a fancy meal. \nAbout the Artist\nDutes Miller’s collages\, artists books and phallic sculptures examine the spaces where the artist’s inner life\, queer subcultures and mass media intersect. Michelle Grabner wrote in ArtForum\, “Miller’s mixed-media collages on paper incorporating penis figures striking silly states of repose and activity are enjoyable vignettes\, demonstrating nimble material interplay.” \nSuggested Materials \n\nPotato (Russet or baking potatoes are ideal)\nSmall paring knife\, utility knife\, Xacto blade\, chisels or carving tools\nTurmeric\, beet powder\, paprika\, saffron\, activated charcoal\, and fine instant coffee powder\nFood coloring\, red wine or tea\nPaint brush or sponges\nInk pads for rubber stamps\n\nZoom Meeting ID: 977 9419 8502\n\nDrink & Draw [VIRTUAL] is a low-key drop-in social workshop devoted to staying creative from home. There are no pretensions and newcomers are always welcome\, so invite your friends to join! Each Drink & Draw [Virtual] features a new guest artist and a new theme or project that uses pencil\, paper\, and everyday household supplies. Don’t have a sketchbook? Hosts will help you improvise. Find us on Zoom\, a free app for your phone or computer. And of course: BYOB!  \nLove the experience?
