SUMMARY:Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Slow Threads – Stitching & Layering
DESCRIPTION:This April\, we’re dedicating our Drink & Draw series to stitching! Join us for one or both sessions to try out various ways to embellish paper or fabric with a needle\, thread\, and other textile materials. \nGuest Artists: Teresita Carson Valdez and Marc Benja\nJust like printmaking\, textile art often involves working with multiple layers and gives our mind a chance to meditate while our hands are busy with a fine\, repetitive process. Artists Teresita Carson Valdez and Marc Benja invite you to let your thoughts wander and settle as you slowly and carefully draw marks with stitches\, or piece together a soft sculpture or the beginning of a quilt. Teri will teach basic embroidery for mark-making and show her process for working with layers of wax resist and dyes; Marc will show how to get the most out of a basic running stitch and work creatively with any small textiles you have\, from orphan socks to beautiful scraps. No sewing experience is required. \nSuggested Materials \n\nAny kind of fabric (canvas\, scraps\, trim\, knits\, socks\, handkerchiefs\, clothing\, etc.)\nEmbroidery floss and/or sewing thread\nEmbroidery needle to fit your thread\n\nOptional Materials \n\nStuffing or batting (for sculptures)\nDye-Na-Flow fabric dye\nWatercolor paints and brushes\nNatural stains like coffee\, tea\, turmeric\nPrints or drawings\, preferably on thicker paper\nFabric glue or other fabric supplies\nA sewing project of your own\n\nZoom Meeting ID: 9940 3489 444\n\nDrink & Draw [VIRTUAL] is a low-key drop-in social workshop devoted to staying creative from home. There are no pretensions and newcomers are always welcome\, so invite your friends to join! Each Drink & Draw [Virtual] features a new guest artist and a new theme or project that uses pencil\, paper\, and everyday household supplies. Don’t have a sketchbook? Hosts will help you improvise. Find us on Zoom\, a free app for your phone or computer. And of course: BYOB!  \nSuggested Donation $15: Pitch in to our Venmo Tip Jar (@spudnikpress) or donate on the website to directly support the featured artist and Spudnik Press Cooperative. \n\nThis event is for everyone! ASR closed captions will be available. If you require another access service to fully participate or have any questions about accessibility\, please contact Angee Lennard at angee@spudnikpress.org. To ensure the best experience\, please try to contact us at your soonest convenience.
