SUMMARY:Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Paper Cut Arts
DESCRIPTION:This July\, our Drink & Draw projects dedicated to all the leftover fragments\, or “chads”. First\, we’ll put to use all the excess bits and pieces from other projects. Then\, we’ll replenish our paper remnants by trying out the art of papercutting. \nGuest Artist: Yang Pulongbarit-Cuevo\nThe art of paper cutting has been practiced around the globe for over a thousand years\, from the Philippines to Mexico to Switzerland. The art form is recognized for its intricate designs and illustrations cut from a single sheet of paper. \nYang Pulongbarit-Cuevo has been cutting paper for many years and is best known for her intricate maps and personalized text-based designs. Yang will share some of her favorite projects in order to help us design our own image using only the positive and negative space of a single sheet of paper.  \nWe will practice some basic knife skills with an introductory project. Then everyone will move on to create a greeting card\, an ornament\, or a mini poster. After getting comfortable with the process\, Yang will demonstrate a variety of ways to build images with multiple layers\, mount your creation\, and use a background color to give your design some attitude. \nFor the printmakers in our midst\, these hand cut artworks can double as a stencil for screen printing\, pressure printing\, and risography!\n \nSuggested Materials: \n\nPencil and eraser\nSturdy paper* (multiple colors preferred)\nCutting mat (or other board you can cut on)\nx-acto knife\nTape\, preferably double sided foam tape\nboard or thick paper for mounting onto (old prints can work great!)\n\n*Standard or thin paper will work better than heavy paper like bristol board. \nOptional Materials:\n\nGlue or modge podge (if tape not available)\nBlank greeting card\nTwine or string to make an ornament\n\nZoom Meeting ID: 97834430647\n\nDrink & Draw [VIRTUAL] is a low-key drop-in workshop devoted to staying creative from home. There are no pretensions and newcomers are always welcome. Each event features a guest artist and a project that uses minimal supplies. Don’t have all the materials? Hosts will help you improvise. Find us on Zoom\, a free app for your phone or computer. And of course: BYOB!  \n$15 Suggested Donation: Pitch in to our Venmo Tip Jar (@spudnikpress) or donate on the website.  \n\nThis event is for everyone! ASR closed captions will be available. If you require another access service to fully participate or have any questions about accessibility\, please contact Angee Lennard at angee@spudnikpress.org. To ensure the best experience\, please try to contact us at your soonest convenience.
