DESCRIPTION:This is as close as Drink & Draw will get to a traditional still life. We encourage you to contribute the oddest edible item you can find. Our themed beverage is wine. \nDrink and Draw is a low-key event devoted to drawing practices. There is no teacher and no pretensions. Spudnik provides a theme for the evening\, props\, and festive drink. You provide a sketchbook and basic drawing materials\, and come with friends! DESCRIPTION:Jay Besemer’s most recent poetry collections are A New Territory Sought and Aster to Daylily.  As Jen Besemer\, he also authored Telephone and Object with Man’s Face (a book of collage-poems in the form of a deck of cards).  To find out more\, visit www.jenbesemer.com. \nIn addition to Jay\, Cean Gamalinda and Adrienne Dodt will also be reading: \nCean Gamalinda is a 6-year-old bag of Original-flavored Lays left out on the kitchen counter. Why have you left him on a kitchen counter for 6 years? His book Crowthoughts is not forthcoming from anywhere because it does not exist because Cean is a bag of potato chips. He rots in Chicago. \nAdrienne Dodt is a poet\, essayist\, and amateur photographer. Adrienne’s work can be found in Fact-Simile\, Apothecary\, Con/Crescent\, and Monkey Puzzle magazines\, and\, most recently\, in the anthology Body Electric. Ze is a regular contributor to Spoon River Poetry Review blog. Ze was the Poetry Editor for Bombay Gin magazine in 2008-2009\, and ze edited the Next Objectivists’ chapbook Collective Unconsciousnesses in 2011. Adrienne currently teaches English at City Colleges of Chicago. \n

SUMMARY:Tenebris–Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:In Tenebris\, James Bouché and Kyle Tata engage in the historically grounded practice of taking objects in the studio and translating them into finished works. Paired\, the selected works reflect two distinct approaches to the task that are unified by maintaining the integrity and substance of their chosen subjects. Bouché takes a tangible\, action-oriented approach by using the physical half tone pattern of mesh fabric as both a surface treatment and a positive for screen printing. The prints are systematically layered so that we witness the disorder and variation produced from that repetition. The source object is clear and simple\, yet the results are abstract and optically complex. \nThe images emerging from Tata’s studio are instantly recognizable and informed by contemporary still lives. He crafts the atmosphere\, clarity and composition to reflect each object’s unique qualities; a meticulous\, yet hazy composition of a drink ring and wishbones\, sharp concrete forms and a deep darkness with subtle fauna. In 2014\, Tenebris displays two young artists’ addition to the extensive canon of studio observation and still life.

At Spudnik we’re excited to do the same! Mark your calendars for Sunday April 27th from 11 – 3. \nWe’ll be sweeping\, organizing\, scrubbing and generally beautifying our lovely studio.
