DESCRIPTION:Spatial Collage: Getting Wacky Wit It is an exercise in taking the collage format of assembling ephemera on paper – and transferring that practice to a larger-scale. “Spatial Collage” is an experiment rooted solely in self-expression and freedom\, while simultaneously toying with ideas of formal exhibition and product placement. \n\nSelf-empowerment is a main focus of Julia Arredondos work\, specifically in the realm of publications and zines. Aspiring to be more like cartoon characters who suffer trauma but never seem to carry emotional baggage\, she believes in the power of constructing positive present and future actions by taking sometimes traumatic past experiences and letting those memories work for me. “I seek to empower myself and others in a way that let’s us confront oppressive experiences and turn them into badges of strength\, humor\, and grace.” \n  \nSpatial Collage: Getting Wacky Wit It will kick-off with a Gallery Talk with Julia Arredondo at 6:00 p.m. on April 1\, followed by the Opening Reception. \nSpatial Collage: Getting Wacky Wit It is one of three Residency Exhibitions\, a series of solo exhibitions that feature the 2015 Spudnik Press Resident Artists and the new work they each produced through the Spudnik Press Residency Program. \n\nCorresponding Programming:\nStudent Debt Suicide Letters\n\nSaturday\, April 2\, 2016\n1:00 – 4:00 p.m.\nCommunity Workshop \nThe exhibition runs through April 30th\, 2016. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday\, noon to 5pm\, or by appointment.

SUMMARY:Drink & Draw: April 2016–April Showers\, May Flowers
DESCRIPTION:Usher in the spring with an evening of botanical drawing! Guest illustrator\, Keara McGraw\, will lead guests through various approaches to sketching and illustrating flowers and native plants. We will provide lots of fresh flora to look to for inspiration as well as pro tips for incorporating the best of scientific illustration with whimsical doodling. \nDrink and Draw is a low-key drop-in social workshop devoted to drawing practices. There are no pretensions\, no prerequisites\, and newcomers are always welcome. Bring a sketchbook and basic drawing materials\, and invite your friends! Drink & Draw occurs the first Wednesday of every other month and features a special theme and a guest artist. Admission to Drink & Draw is a $10 suggested donation. The event is BYOB\, but we do have some wine and beer available with a donation.

DESCRIPTION:Warmer weather is on the way and Spudnik Press is hosting a classic springtime event: Spring Cleaning! \nWith over 65 classes and workshops and 750 Open Studio visits each year\, our studio takes a lot of wear and tear. Join staff\, members* and friends of Spudnik for an afternoon of cleaning\, organizing\, repairing\, and socializing. Plenty of refreshments will be on hand to keep us energized. Let’s all pitch in to give our shop the love it deserves! \nPlease RSVP to info@spudnikpress.org. Please include your name\, phone number\, and any particular projects you would look forward to helping with\, such as redistributing type\, organizing supplies\, painting\, or deep cleaning.
