SUMMARY:Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Making Friends - A Critter Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Guest Artist: Sam Hensley\nJoin Sam Hensley for a fantastical night of world-building where you will make your very own new friends using any colorful materials you have on hand! Sam uses a curious\, magical-thinking approach for “meeting” otherworldly critters\, and brings these to life as drawings\, prints\, and even robots. Starting with writing and sketching exercises\, Sam will show us how to enter a collaborative process with our new critter friends\, imagining them as beings from other dimensions who want to share with us their hopes\, fears\, dreams\, and needs. Taking our new friends seriously — but not ourselves! — we will draw (or paint or sculpt) them into a newly imagined reality\, and make sure they have a welcoming home in our artworks. \nZoom Meeting ID: 912 6875 9644\nSuggested Materials: \n\nPaper\nColorful drawing supplies (markers\, pencils\, crayons\, etc.)\n\nOptional Materials:\n\nWatercolor or acrylic paints\nFast sculpture supplies: Sculpee / clay\, crochet\, thread and fabric\, dioramas\, colorful paper and cutting tools\, etc.\n\n\nDrink & Draw [Virtual] is a low-key drop-in social workshop devoted to staying creative from home. SUMMARY:Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: New Rituals - A Zinemaking Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Guest Artist: Yewon Kwon\nSpend an evening making zines using one of the world’s simplest book forms! Yewon Kwon will guide us through this no-stitch\, no-staple\, no-tape\, simple folded technique for any 8-page zine! Our first prompt will be the new rituals we’ve created during this time: baking bread? growing onions? taking walks? counting birds? You could also draw cartoons of your loved ones\, or illustrate eight things you love about your pet\, your kitchen\, your neighborhood…. Once you get the hang of it\, you might make some blank books filled with doodling prompts\, to mail to your friends and family. These are so fun and easy that your newest ritual might just be 8-page zine making! \nZoom Meeting ID: 99310716962\nSuggested Materials\n\n8.5 x 11 paper (or larger)\nA cutting tool (scissors or blade)\nDrawing tools (markers\, colored pencils\, Sharpees\, pens\, etc.)\n\nYewon Kwon is a printer and publisher currently residing in Chicago. In addition to printing their own works using risograph\, offset\, and screen printing\, Yewon also runs the collective publication Pallor Pink\, and publishes and performs with their partner Benjamin Kraco under the experimental visual and noise project\, Gelkheht. \n\nDrink & Draw [Virtual] is a low-key drop-in social workshop devoted to staying creative from home. There are no pretensions and newcomers are always welcome\, so invite your friends to join! SUMMARY:Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Optical Illusions
DESCRIPTION:Guest Artist: Dave Krzeminski\nJoin Dave Krzeminski for a night of optical illusions. You will not believe your eyes\, or how easy it is to create mesmerizing visual deceptions! Working with basic geometry\, we will learn to use clever line work\, repetition\, high contrast\, and vibrancy for high-impact psychedelic effects. Dave will demystify the construction of the “Impossible Triangle” and other visually confounding shapes that can be used as decorations\, or the basis of a pattern. These fun and simple techniques make drawing feel like doing a puzzle\, fitting pieces together and watching an illusion emerge on the paper. Use your drawing as a background or stand-alone poster\, a book cover\, a greeting card to entertain a friend\, or simply as a fun technical challenge! \nWe’ll also get a whirlwind tour of how M.C. Escher’s famous prints gave way to the graphic design of the Op Art Movement with artists like Bridget Riley\, Victor Vasarely\, and Yayoi Kusama. At the end of the session\, Dave will also show us how to transfer drawings into Adobe Illustrator and to prepare for screenprinting. \nZoom Meeting ID: 937 6616 3788\nSuggested Materials:\n\nPencils\nPaper (graph paper if possible)\nRuler (or straight edge)\nProtractor (or a paper folded into triangles)\nPens\, Markers\, Colored Pencils\, or Acrylic Paint (high contrast / vibrant colors are best)\n\nOptional Materials:\n\nAdobe Illustrator (to follow the digital tutorial)\n\nDrink & Draw [Virtual] is a low-key drop-in social workshop devoted to staying creative from home.
