SUMMARY:Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Laying A Scene
DESCRIPTION:Guest Artist: Ethan Brown\nNo matter what kind of art you make\, drawing is an important skill worthy of study\, and rewarding in its own right. Ethan Brown will take us back to the basics for a night of casual observational drawing that will help you deepen your engagement with your familiar environment by intentionally slowing down your focus. Remember line\, form\, value…? Gesture drawings and continuous contours? These old chestnuts are still among your most trustworthy companions and they’d love to see you again\, no matter how long it’s been; even if you’ve never formally met! \nWe’ll use homemade viewfinders and value scales as simple tools for planning our compositions. We’ll also talk about how formal elements affect the mood of a drawing\, and how an implied or lost edge or even a single line can give information to your viewer\, or inspire their imagination. Come rediscover your surroundings with us! \nSuggested Materials \n\nPlain drawing paper\nPencils\, pens\, charcoal\, ink\, markers\n\nZoom Meeting ID: 991 2763 7103\n\nDrink & Draw [Virtual] is a low-key drop-in social workshop devoted to staying creative from home. There are no pretensions and newcomers are always welcome\, so invite your friends to join! Each Drink & Draw [Virtual] features a new guest artist and a new theme or project that uses pencil\, paper\, and everyday household supplies. Don’t have a sketchbook? Hosts will help you improvise. Find us on Zoom\, a free app for your phone or computer. And of course: BYOB!  \nLove the experience? Pitch in to our Venmo Tip Jar (@spudnikpress) to directly support the featured artist and Spudnik Press Cooperative.

SUMMARY:Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Abstract Alternative Portraiture with Margot Harrington
DESCRIPTION:Guest Artist: Margot Harrington\nWhat do our emotions look like\, as they live inside our bodies?\nHow can the techniques of abstract art help us express and explore our internal world?\nWhat would a portrait of ourselves\, our city\, or our community look like if we rendered it entirely in shapes\, colors\, and gestural mark making? \nTo guide us in these questions\, artist and designer Margot Harrington will lead us in an evening of alternative portraiture. No experience is necessary for this loose and improvisational approach to drawing that is not meant to be hyper-realistic. We will use fully sensorial prompts (including Margot’s very own Studio Arts ASMR soundtrack!) to explore how drawing creates a tactile\, vibrational experience in the moment\, and learn to inhabit our bodies and drawings in a more connected way. Working from the psychology of somatics\, we will use drawing as an introspective tool for self-expression and build an abstract visual vocabulary for describing personal experiences\, values\, and desires. \nZoom Meeting ID: 924 7103 8045\nSuggested Materials:\n \n\nColorful drawing materials that make a wide range of different marks (pencils\, charcoal\, chalk\, pastels\, markers\, pens\, watercolors\, etc.) and any kind of paper\n\nOptional Materials: \n\nCollage materials\, cutting tools and glue\nA tablet for digital drawings\n\n\nDrink & Draw [Virtual] is a low-key drop-in social workshop devoted to staying creative from home.
