“Using a string of lights, we generated an image of bodily movement involved in producing music on a bass clarinet. The musical composition utilizes indeterminate procedures to explore the roles that choice, vocabulary, and discipline play in improvisation.”

“Paul and Cynthia explored the synergies in their composition process to build both a musical and visual work of art. Paul spoke in visual terms as he described his process: he began with a sound field, then layered instruments and sounds like droplets of water coalescing towards a unifying flow of sound. The musicians came in and out of the composition concluding with everyone coming together like a coda – a river on a map. Cynthia’s work represents this lovely metaphor, as she layered expressive line, shape and color, ending with the key that brings the work together.”

“The process of collaboration began with Trevor providing an abstract animated short for Anton to use to influence the initial composition for the first performance. Trevor was inspired by the initial composition created another image to influence Anton in creating a final composition for the Ten x Ten recording which influenced Trevor’s final design for the Ten x Ten printed edition. The process of it all was discussed over a few beers.”
