Drink & Draw: April 2014—Abstraction

Gain inspiration from Kate McQuillen’s solo show, Crush, Gush on view in The Annex. Then, with Kate’s guidance, experiment with a variety of materials and approaching to creating non-representative art. Collage and layer abstractions to create unique artworks that push the boundaries of drawing.

Kate McQuillen is a Chicago-based artist working in print and installation, and is represented by O’Born Contemporary. She has shown in Toronto, Chicago, Montreal, and Boston, and has works in public and private collections in Europe and North America. Writings about her work have been included in such news outlets as The Chicago Reader, Time Out Chicago and Rabble.ca, and in publications by Columbia College Chicago and Rutgers University.

Drink and Draw is a low-key event devoted to drawing practices. There is no teacher and no pretensions. Spudnik provides a theme for the evening, props, and festive drink. Attendees provide a sketchbook and basic drawing materials, and are encouraged to bring friends. Drawing nights take place the first Wednesday of every other month.
