Screen Printing
Screen printing is a traditional, hands-on method that pushes ink through a mesh screen using a stencil. Each color requires a separate screen and layer of ink, making it a multi-step process ideal for bold, graphic images—but it can also be adapted for subtle, tonal designs using fine mesh and halftone techniques. It’s commonly used on paper for artworks, posters, flyers, and invitations, or on fabric for totes, t-shirts, flags, and garments, though it also works on wood, plastic, glass, and metal. The result is a print with rich, opaque colors, sharp edges, and a slightly raised, tactile surface known for its durability and ability to produce both vivid and nuanced images.
Our printshop has:

Risography
Risography (often referred to as Riso printing) is a unique, eco-friendly printing method that combines elements of screen printing and photocopying. Developed by the Japanese company Riso Kagaku Corporation in the 1980s, it was originally designed for high-volume office duplication. We love it for its distinct visual style and affordability.
Unlike digital or offset printing, Riso printing is stencil-based, where each color is added in a separate layer. Riso prints are known for their vibrant, saturated colors and distinctive, handmade aesthetic. The process uses soy-based inks and prints in layers, often resulting in slight misregistrations between colors that contribute to its charming, imperfect look. Interestingly, the ink never really drys it instead, abosrtbs into the paper over time. The prints have a flat, matte finish, with ink sitting on the surface of uncoated, absorbent paper, which enhances the tactile quality of the work.
Our Annex houses two (2) basic risograph machines. Our current selection of colors are as follows:
- Black
- Federal Blue
- Green
- Yellow
- Fluorescent Pink
- Fluorescent Orange
- Tomato
- Teal
