Unstable Table is the first intaglio print that Joe Tallarico has produced through Spudnik Press Cooperative. His character-based artwork typically combines cartoonish features with abstraction, geometric pattern, and surrealism. This particular print reflects the artist’s veneration for the Chicago Imagists as well as his research and interest in historical intaglio prints. This psychological portrait of a frenetic four-legged creature radiates incertitude and instability. The title, Unstable Table, acknowledges the that stability is precarious and unreliable.

“I really enjoyed collaborating with Spudnik Press and am honored to be a part of their Invitational Publishing Program. It had been about 20 years since I attempted an intaglio print to disastrous results. After dedicating over a year to producing very colorful paintings, I decided to take a step back and limit the print to a single muted tone.” – Joe Tallarico
