Allie Hasson
I’m a stationer and artist living and working in Chicago. I grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountain region of Virginia, where I dream of someday building a tiny A-frame cabin. My recent years working at Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum and a few enduring pen pal relationships led me to my current state of being obsessive about creating beautiful objects of communication, fine art and epistolary.

I’m originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and moved to Chicago for school. I am strongly interested in printmaking, cartooning, and the wide, ever-changing world of illustration. I studied Illustration in the BFA program at Columbia College Chicago, and I currently live in the Lakeview area of Chicago. I love going to art fairs (my favorite is Renegade Craft Fair), and collecting artist’s prints, as well as their business cards so I can learn more about their work. I like the idea of making art accessible to collectors and the general art-loving public by showing at fairs and having an online presence.

Whether it’s arranging a still life, himself before the camera, or perhaps they’re one in the same, Doak exploits photography’s ability to simultaneously create truth and call it into question. He uses lush color, rich textures, meticulously unarranged arrangements—even the fundamentals of light and dark—to inform photographs that are copied, recopied, deconstructed then reconstructed. While his subject matter may be ordinary, the inscenation is anything but. In this floating world of appearances, the work unites the tension between truth, fantasy, and authenticity.
