Rodrigo Lara Zendejas

Born in Mexico in 1981, Rodrigo Lara Zendejas is the Assistant Professor and Area Head of the Ceramics Department at the University of Notre Dame. He received an MFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in 2013 and his BFA, Summa Cum Laude, from the Universidad de Guanajuato in Mexico in 2003. Lara has had solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Museo de Arte Moderno in the state of Mexico; Museo de la Ciudad in Querétaro, Mexico; Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago; the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago; C.G. Boerner in New York City; Centro cultural Ignacio Ramírez El Nigromante in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; Kruger Gallery in Marfa, Texas; Test Site Projects in Las Vegas; Governors State University, IL; among others. He has been in such residencies as MASS MoCA, Cerámica Suro, ACRE, Ragdale, and Cross Currents: Cultural Exchange. Lara has two monographs of his work, Máscaras y Artefactos and Memorials. He won the first prize in sculpture at the Premio Nacional de las Artes Visuales in Mexico in 2010. He has received several awards including: Make a Wave Award, 3Arts, Chicago; Individual Artists Program Grants, DCASE, Chicago; Proyectos Especiales FONCA, Mexico City; Emerging Artist Grant, Joan Mitchell Foundation, New York City; Jóvenes Creadores, FONCA, Mexico City; Extraordinary Abilities Visa (O-1), U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services; James Nelson Raymond Fellowship, 2013 SAIC Fellowship Competition; PECDA Estudios en el extranjero, IQCA, Queretaro, Mexico; International Graduate Scholarship, SAIC; and the John W. Edra Soto

Edra Soto (b. 1971) is a Puerto Rican-born artist, educator, and co-director of outdoor project space The Franklin. Soto instigates meaningful, relevant, and often difficult conversations surrounding socioeconomic and cultural oppression, erasure of history, and loss of cultural knowledge. Having grown up in Puerto Rico, and now immersed in her Chicago community, the artist has evolved to raise questions through her work about constructed social orders, diasporic identity, and the legacy of colonialism.

Miguel Limon

Teaching Artist

Miguel Limon is Chicago-based arts educator and cultural worker. They grew up on the Southeast Side of Chicago, where their grandfather worked as a migrant laborer in the steel mills. Their work explores the intersection of art, education, and social justice, drawing on themes of memory, environmental justice, and cultural heritage.

Miguel is particularly interested in activating archives, memory, and migrant narratives through photography, printmaking, and social practice art. Their projects often examine the histories of migrant labor in Chicago and the use of print media as a tool for community engagement and activism. Their recent works include address Mexican-American labor histories and environmental justice on the far southeast side.

Miguel has experience in arts and museum education, having taught and led programs at the University of Chicago, SAIC @ Homan Square, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and more. They hold an BS in Education from DePaul University and MA in Museum and Exhibition Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Limon has shown work at Mana Contemporary, the Design Museum of Chicago, John David Mooney Foundation, and others. They hav received recognition from 3Arts, the Aperture Foundation, the Puffin Foundation, Luminarts Foundation, and others.

Riesling Dong

Riesling Dong is a Chicago based book artist and graphic designer. Her bold experimental approach to her book publishing projects often challenges the convention of traditional books in both physical design and printed content. Riesling’s books take on sculptural form and she views them as a unique medium for delivery of information, storytelling and embodied experience. Her aim is to enhance the viewer’s experience and understanding, meanwhile creating an object that holds meaning from typography to material.

Anders Zanichkowsky

Anders Zanichkowsky came to Chicago in 2019 after getting their MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where they concentrated in printmaking and religious art & studies. They are an interdisciplinary artist who also works in papermaking, textiles, neon, video, poetry, and performance, and they are the owner of Burial Blankets, weaving custom shrouds for green burial that are meant for enjoyment and reflection during life. In 2016 Anders was an artist in residence with The Arctic Circle sailing expedition in Svalbard, and their work has been shown across the U.S. and abroad including The Wisconsin Film Festival and the Ukranian Institute of Modern Art. Anders has taught all ages and backgrounds with a focus on printmaking, drawing, and DIY-style professional development for working artists, including while on staff at Spudnik from 2019 – 2021.

Avery Johnson

Studio Technician

Avery Johnson is known for her sharp wit and eccentric fashion taste. She is originally from Los Angeles, CA and currently resides in Chicago, IL. Avery received her BFA in printmaking from Washington University in St. Louis, and has since worked in both commercial silkscreen and as a fine art printmaker at Island Press. Avery is a process-focused maker who frequently uses self-portraiture and dances between the mediums of print, photo, and moving image. In 2018 she founded The Punish Babies Art Collective where she continues to collaborate with artists around the country to organize shows, publications, and public art projects.
