Heavily influenced by Eastern philosophy, Native American rituals and American skate culture, Charlie Megna’s colorful gouache and gold-leaf paintings combine loaded, symbolic motifs with the banal, the humorous and the commonplace.
Spudnik Press Cooperative is thrilled to announce the 9th annual Printers’ Ball: Trip & Return.
The theme for 2013 is “Trip & Return.” A letterpress printing term, it’s also a playful acknowledgement of the return to discussion of the craft. This daytime event will host letterpress and screen printing demonstrations, discussions by well-known print and poster makers, readings from local poets, and performances from Elastic Arts Foundation musicians throughout the many art and design spaces within the spacious building. Local food trucks and beverage vendors will also be on hand. As is tradition, magazines, literary organizations, and design studios—over 400—from across the country will provide complimentary magazines and ephemera to all attendees of this free event.

Beverage: Vodka BYO Mixer
August’s theme is “Comics,” and we’ll have a BAM! good time. There will be a variety of comics to look through and books on the subject of comic drawing techniques. You can walk out with the start of your own funny book! We’ll provide vodka if you bring your favorite mixer!
Neanderthal Planet is a print-based installation, time capsule, and anthropological anomaly. Travel there firsthand at the Annex. Refreshments will be served.

Progress is an ongoing expedition critical to growth and development. It is with this in mind that each fall, Spudnik Press pays homage to the role progress plays in an artist’s practice, while raising the funds needed to keep our studio in progress.
October’s Theme is “Your Doodles Rock & Other Drawing Games” that celebrate that great artform–doodling. Almost every artist has turned in a math test with scribbles of genius in its margins, so now we give them the recognition they deserve! Our theme beverage is Oktoberfest beer, or BYO.
Site and Source is a solo exhibition including many works that were made while Jaclyn was Artist In Residence at Spudnik Press Cooperative in Chicago from March through May 2013. Beginning with the plastic fencing and other found objects taken from an abandoned lot near her home, Jacunski uses the impression of these materials to create new work.

Ten x Ten is a collaboration between visual artists and musicians exploring visual and auditory interaction. Through exploring the underlying concepts of synesthesia, artists and composers work together to produce a single two-part artwork; an art print and a composition for small ensemble. Live musical performance and one-night exhibition.
