Drink & Draw February 2017: Comfort Foods

Groundhog Day approaches, and the duration of our already long Chicago winter could stretch into March without warning. Don’t fret just yet! Spudnik has the perfect cure for your winter woes. On February 1st, we invite you to a comfy and cozy mid-winter Drink & Draw to help fight back the frost with friends and food.

Our host this month is illustrator and cartoonist, Robert Kelsey. Food is a frequent feature in his art, both in the subject and in the media. From screenprinting Bouillon faces onto tortillas, to figure painting with balsamic vinegar and coffee, he seeks to explore the edible and inedible aspects of his favorite meals. So come on down, bring a hot meal, and practice your observational drawing skills. Spudnik will provide a variety of drawing tools and supplies, including pens, pencils, markers and more.

Robert Kelsey is a new graduate of DePaul University, where he studied animation and game design. He has written and illustrated many comics and zines, and has been a guest at several zine festivals around the midwest. His work combines the macabre or uncanny with the approachability that often comes with the cartoon medium.

Drink and Draw is a low-key drop-in social workshop devoted to drawing practices. There are no pretensions, no prerequisites, and newcomers are always welcome. Bring a sketchbook and basic drawing materials, and invite your friends! Drink & Draw occurs the first Wednesday of every other month and features a special theme and a guest artist. Admission to Drink & Draw is a $10 suggested donation. The event is BYOB, but we do have some wine and beer available with a donation.
