Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Abstract Alternative Portraiture with Margot Harrington

Guest Artist: Margot Harrington

What do our emotions look like, as they live inside our bodies?
How can the techniques of abstract art help us express and explore our internal world?
What would a portrait of ourselves, our city, or our community look like if we rendered it entirely in shapes, colors, and gestural mark making?

To guide us in these questions, artist and designer Margot Harrington will lead us in an evening of alternative portraiture. No experience is necessary for this loose and improvisational approach to drawing that is not meant to be hyper-realistic. We will use fully sensorial prompts (including Margot’s very own Studio Arts ASMR soundtrack!) to explore how drawing creates a tactile, vibrational experience in the moment, and learn to inhabit our bodies and drawings in a more connected way. Working from the psychology of somatics, we will use drawing as an introspective tool for self-expression and build an abstract visual vocabulary for describing personal experiences, values, and desires.
