Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Character Creation

This August,  Drink & Draw explores puppets! First we’ll develop characters for our puppets through a rapid fire doodle event. Then, we’ll bring these character designs to life as paper puppets.

Guest Artist: Logan Kruidenier

Logan Kruidenier has led various “Doodle Jams” throughout the city inspired by his daily practice of making quick drawings on post-it notes. This practice has become an essential part of his day and brings fresh ideas and new compositions to his art.

Every story needs a compelling character. Doodle your cast of puppets into creation through a rapid set of prompt-driven drawing exercises designed to help you get free and wacky with your ideas as you think about interesting personality traits, back stories, physical features, and how these might manifest as striking silhouettes. Join us with your beverage of choice  for a fun mid-week break in your routine. And if your doodles are begging to be brought to life, come back for part two on August 18th!

Suggested Materials:

  • Post-it notes or loose pieces of paper
  • Drawing tools like pencils, pens or sharpies

Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL] is a low-key drop-in workshop devoted to staying creative from home. There are no pretensions and newcomers are always welcome. Each event features a guest artist and a project that uses minimal supplies. Don’t have all the materials? Hosts will help you improvise. Find us on Zoom, a free app for your phone or computer. And of course: BYOB!
