Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Flag Books

Guest Artist: Lindi Shi

The “Flag Book” is fascinating, impressive, and easy-to-learn handmade book! It is one of Lindi Shi’s favorite artist book forms because it can be read as a drawing, a sculpture, or an installation. She will teach you how to fold, cut, and assemble your own flag books out of any paper materials you want to use. This simple variation of the accordion book form incorporates cut-out “flag” pages, and has the potential to be transformed into more complicated structures once you understand the basics. No bookmaking experience is necessary,

Lindi Shi is a printmaker, papermaker, troublemaker, and former mathematician. She is currently teaching art in Guangzhou, China since receiving her MFA from RISD in 2020. Her artistic practice is mainly about storytelling and narratives, and the artist book has always been an important part of her work.
