Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Laying A Scene

Guest Artist: Ethan Brown

No matter what kind of art you make, drawing is an important skill worthy of study, and rewarding in its own right. Ethan Brown will take us back to the basics for a night of casual observational drawing that will help you deepen your engagement with your familiar environment by intentionally slowing down your focus. Remember line, form, value…? Gesture drawings and continuous contours? These old chestnuts are still among your most trustworthy companions and they’d love to see you again, no matter how long it’s been; even if you’ve never formally met!

We’ll use homemade viewfinders and value scales as simple tools for planning our compositions. We’ll also talk about how formal elements affect the mood of a drawing, and how an implied or lost edge or even a single line can give information to your viewer, or inspire their imagination. Come rediscover your surroundings with us!
