Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Points of Contact – Celebrating the Tactile

Guest Artist: Ally Hembree

Remember when it wasn’t taboo to high five or hug? What social interaction do you miss the most? Our first ever online Drink & Draw will be led by guest artist, Ally Hembree, who will guide us through how to use shapes, patterns, and a limited color palette to illustrate our answers to these questions, and rejuvenate special objects within our home.

Embellish a household object, upcycle a glass bottle, or follow Ally’s lead by painting a terracotta pot! Don’t have an object on hand? Scavenge your neighborhood for a nice stone to make the feature of your rock garden. Using acrylic paints (or whatever you have on hand), make your object all the more alluring while lamenting our social interactions during the stay at home order and celebrating relationships from a distance.

Throughout the stay-at-home order, Hembree has dove into decorating terracotta pots as a way to explore a new creative practice centered on painting and drawing. While right now the ultimate expression of care is distance, Hembree has enjoyed designing pots to celebrate the importance of embrace and look toward a “post-quar” future.

Events are currently scheduled each Wednesday through May 6. Find us on Zoom, a free app for your phone or computer. And of course: BYOB!
