Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Quarantine’s Best Home Videos

Guest Artist: Lya Finston

Watch your pictures jump off the page and onto the screen in this fun, entry-level animation workshop! During this session, we’ll take inspiration from our domestic surroundings, breathing life into the inanimate and the mundane in order to realize fantastical scenes taking place in the home under quarantine. Love drawing? Sketch out a cartoon! Prefer taking pictures? Bring some objects together in a setting for a stop motion video!
Along with examples of her own work, Lya will also showcase a few of the animators she turns to for inspiration, including Suzan Pitt, Ray Harryhausen, Bill Plympton, Cristóbal León, and Joanquin Cociña. She will then demystify how to quickly and easily create the content necessary for your very own animated GIFs, embracing the wonderfully clunky and homemade aesthetics of this extremely accessible medium. By the end of the night you’ll be able to bring your audience into the life of your work like never before! No fancy software is needed, just a smartphone and some free apps (but Lya will also give a tutorial on doing this in Photoshop for anyone who wants it).

Suggested Materials
