Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Making Friends – A Critter Workshop

Guest Artist: Sam Hensley

Join Sam Hensley for a fantastical night of world-building where you will make your very own new friends using any colorful materials you have on hand! Sam uses a curious, magical-thinking approach for “meeting” otherworldly critters, and brings these to life as drawings, prints, and even robots. Starting with writing and sketching exercises, Sam will show us how to enter a collaborative process with our new critter friends, imagining them as beings from other dimensions who want to share with us their hopes, fears, dreams, and needs. Taking our new friends seriously — but not ourselves! — we will draw (or paint or sculpt) them into a newly imagined reality, and make sure they have a welcoming home in our artworks.

Drink & Draw [Virtual] is a low-key drop-in social workshop devoted to staying creative from home. There are no pretensions and newcomers are always welcome, so invite your friends to join! Each Drink & Draw [Virtual] features a new guest artist and a new theme or project that uses pencil, paper, and everyday household supplies. Don’t have a sketchbook? Hosts will help you improvise. Events are currently scheduled each Wednesday through May 6. Find us on Zoom, a free app for your phone or computer. And of course: BYOB!
