Sep 2010–Nov 2010

Project Statement:

Struwwelpeter, first published in Germany in 1844, contains ten cautionary tales for children, each one with a clear moral and overly exaggerated consequences for misbehavior. In one parable, a mother warns her son not to suck his thumbs. The son continues his habit. A tailor with giant scissors joins the scene, and the story heads in a dreadful direction. Artist and Illustrator Sanya Glisic, while a Resident Artist at Spudnik Press Cooperative, created a new version with whimsical and playful illustrations that capture the dark, often morbid sensibilities of the tales.

Vanessa was elected to the Spudnik Press Board of Directors in 2013 and served on the board through summer 2015.

Angee Lennard

Founder & Director

Angee Lennard is an artist and teacher, but is best known for her work as the Founder and Executive Director of Spudnik Press Cooperative, a community-based art center in Chicago. Now in it’s ninth year, Spudnik Press has evolved from an experimental work/live space to a multi-facetted organization unique in its dedication to printmaking. Under Lennard’s leadership, Spudnik Press provides artistic opportunities to over 3,500 people a year through studio access, residencies, fellowships, classes, exhibitions, collaborative projects and public programs.

As a teaching artist through Marwen and Spudnik Press, she develops curriculum addressing print media, community projects, and illustration.  She is surprisingly passionate about the parallels between art making and arts administration. She holds a BFA from SAIC.
