Intro to Screenprinting: Analog Materials

Before there were computers, there was drawing fluid, ink and mylar, exact-o knives and rubylith. This class sets aside the software and digital tools that are so often relied on and instead emphasizes the many analog materials available for artists to create imagery for screenprinting. Each material or process offers a unique set of parameters. Through structured projects, students will explore many approaches to conceptualizing and crafting images for printmaking. Students will gain a wide base of screenprinting on paper skills including the use of photo emulsion, ink mixing, and the ability to create an edition of professional prints. A culminating independent project allows students to put these skills to use within their own artistic practice.
