DIY Greeting Cards: Screenprinting

Screenprinting is one of many processes at Spudnik Press that can be used to print your own collection of cards. This quick and fun introduction to screenprinting on paper allows students to dabble with a new process while making giftable notecards just in time for the holidays.

Designs that begin as digitally files or hand-drawn artwork are transferred to a mesh screen using a darkroom and photographic film. From this screen, students are able to produce a run of identical prints for friends, family and coworkers.

Students will arrive with a one-color design. Throughout the workshop, they will finalize a design, expose it onto a screen, mix their own ink, and most importantly, print a set of cards. Students will walk away with 20 handmade greeting cards and basic understanding of screenprinting on paper.

Basic white 5×7” flat cards are available for students who do not bring their own cards.

Want to print your own cards, but you need some help with the design? Consider pairing this workshop with our Hand Lettering Workshop. If hallmark greeting cards leave you wanting more, these workshops are your solution.
