Utilitarian Printmaking: Leather Keychains

By combining simple printmaking tools with simple leatherwork tools, you can make your own leather accouterments. Join printmaker and taxidermy hobbyist, Ashley Shaul, as she shares a utilitarian printmaking-meets-leatherworking project: leather keychains.

Starting with a simple graphic image, this workshop will walk students through the process of transferring this image to a linoleum block, carving the image in relief, and printing onto pieces of leather. Students will also learn the basics of manipulating leather, by shaping, attaching to a durable key ring, and finishing with stitched edges. Each student will leave with one completed keychain and a carved stamp capable of creating many more prints.
